Monks Fish Farm

"When they live by the labour of their hands, then they are truly monks" - St Benedict. These words of St Benedict is a driving force in monasteries; an enormous source of inspiration for monks of Ewu who have left no stone unturned in making the most out of the very little within their disposal.

 There are Challenges

Fish in the pond

In an effort to diversify its work, the monastery keeps a few small sized ponds for raring fish. Due to the enormous challenges of running a fishery in a location like that of the monastery where availability of water is an enormous challenge, keeping the fish ponds alive all year round is virtually impossible and may continue to be so until the monastery is able to put in place not without the help of donors, a viable source of water.

The Water Factor

Fish Farm
The monastery currently do not have a viable source of water due to the elevated location and the topology of the terrain of the locality where the monastery is located. It will take a drill of over a thousand feet to get to a location underground where water can be gotten. Previous attempt to get water from the ground through drilling has failed as usable water have been found to be many more hundreds of feet deeper than already estimated.
