Farming has always been a great Benedictine traditional occupation for monks to keep and this is no exception for the monks of St Benedict monastery Ewu. All the more so that farming is an integral part of the culture of Africans, Ewu monastery has always maintained the tradition of manual labour and farm work for the monks, irrespective of what their status or expertise may be continues to be not just work but a combination of work and spiritual exercise.

"By The Labour Of Their Hands..."

farmSt Benedict of Nursia, the great founder of the Benedictine tradition once said, "Once they live by the labour of their hands, then they are true monks'. Even with the trend towards modernization and as society becomes more secular, a reality of which religious organization are not totally immune, the monks of St Benedict monastery continue to maintain this great Benedictine tradition. Ever seeking to keep the sacredness of nature and living in harmony with the created world knowing fully well that it exist solely for our good.

In this humble way, the monks of the monastery are able to provide a good deal of their food stuff without neglecting to share the gifts of nature with the needy.
